Case Study
Discover America,
The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail

The project was built as a unique method of engagement for people wanting to participate and connect to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail across the United States.  The Morse Group developed "Discover America" a project that includes the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Paintings and The Lewis and Clark Art Expeditions.  These programs focus on four main communities connecting with Lewis and Clark: National, States, Local and People.

Our process involved defining the overall vision, the end goal, the growth drivers  to attain the end goal and implementing systems to attain those goals.

The Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Project Objectives:  The core project objective is to connect people at all levels to a historical event that changed the United States' future growth.  To celebrate the present communities along the route through the eyes of the people and a connection to the American Landscape.  The four main communities for the project are as follows:

  • National:  Giving the leadership in Washington, DC and their individual departments a national message and program to go forward with that would connect people to the bicentennial.

  • States:  Connecting the ten states along the route from St. Louis, MO to Portland, OR.   Connecting these states through their unique relationship through this bicentennial and historical event.

  • Local:  The individual communities along the route with connection and engagement programs to connect people to the historical development and uniqueness of their community.

  • People:  Individuals and families team, family members, larger Boeing and the regional community.

Results:  The vehicle to accomplish these objectives is titled 'Discover America'  and comes in two forms.

  • The Lewis and Clark Commemorative Paintings: A series of ten monumental paintings that celebrate the American landscape along the route from St. Louis, MO to Portland, OR.  These ten paintings capture the unique landscape of each of the ten states and communicates it on a grand scale.  These paintings are also available as limited edition collectors prints.  A traveling series of prints have been on display across the country.  To learn more visit the Lewis and Clark Commemorative Paintings on the web.

  • The Lewis and Clark Art Expeditions:  A series of programs that engage people to create their own vision of the Lewis and Clark experience.  These interactive programs are used in communities across the country and by travel groups as a unique experience that produces personal tangible reminders of the experiential connection that are unique to each participant.  This program includes the Lewis and Clark Youth Mural Project.
